    Re: AT&T and Alltel Merger

I just tried mine and it also said ineligible.
But when I tried a few months ago it said eligible.

Maybe it's ineligible for transfer because it's now technically an AT&T number already?
    You'll shoot your eye out.

    Re: AT&T and Alltel Merger

This entire process has been one huge fustercluck. All thanks to the wonderful federal government. Would have been easy to just leave Verizon as the sole provider in the area. Why essentially force AT&T into the market?

I still haven't chosen my new phones and don't really know what to do. I simply do not want to deal with AT&T, nor do I want to deal with Verizon for that matter. I don't like that AT&T is basically causing me to waste the money I've spent on phones.

As for those who work at the stores, I wouldn't believe a word they say. They know about as much about what's going on as I do about quantum theory. They're going to say whatever it takes to get you to go along with them.

    Re: AT&T and Alltel Merger

While I agree that this process has been a fustercluck, I am glad that they required Verizon to split off some of the markets. If Verizon had a monopoly on the cell phone business in nearly half the country, they would be able to charge more in these markets and the only thing we could do is suck it up and pay more. It is never good for the consumer when only one company is the provider for a certain service in your area.

Also, unless you have purchased and use multiple phones on a regular basis I am not sure how you can say that you had to waste money on phones when they are giving you a brand new one for 100% free. They are allowing you out of your contract within the first 30 days of the takeover and you can take the Alltel phones you have now and use them with the Verizon network or if you are staying with AT&T you could sell your Alltel phones to a Verizon customer.

Say what? With the 700 min. plan, with unlimited text and two 2GB data plans, I'm looking at right at $150. Add in taxes and I'm going to be paying more than I was with Alltel.

    Re: AT&T and Alltel Merger

We have a relatively simple 2-phone family plan. The AT&T plan that's most like our Alltel plan is less expensive, by about $20 a month.

2 iPhones, 700 minutes, 1500 texts per phone, the $15 smartphone plan (rather than the 2gb - to save $) is $129 before taxes.
Alltel couldnt come close to that rate for me - thats why I'd never gotten a smart phone.

I'm the same way, I was over $200 with Alltel and my new plan is $150-160ish so I'm saving a ton with AT&T
